Back in March, we took off for spring break and visited Mike's side of the family in the Longview area. Somehow I didn't get any pictures of the relatives. Practically no pictures of human beings at all. (What?!? Fail.) We had a nice chance to catch up with Mike's mom, one of his brothers, both his grandmas, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Charlie's nana spoiled him rotten! Seriously. So many toys and treats. We brought him into the Walmart where Mike's mom works so he could be presented to all her friends. They are all very kind to ooh and aah over how much Charlie's grown. Charlie loves the celebrity of it all.
I especially enjoyed our visit to Winnsboro, where Mike's grandmother lives. She treated us to lunch at Brewbaker's. It was tasty! She had an appointment right after, so we took ourselves to Ganny's, a little pie place in town. We feasted on cinnamon peach pie a la mode, and a slice of lemon meringue pie. Ganny's is a one woman marvel. The proprietor/baker/waitress is a former pharmacy tech. (She knew who Mike was because she used to fill Big Daddy's prescriptions prior to his passing.) She discovered her passion for pie baking and slowly built her pie business up until she could quit her day job. She bakes pies in the morning, serves a homemade lunch-of-the-day (which is always immediately sold out), and generally bubbles Southern sass all day long. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.
